Cadhay - a mile from Ottery St Mary - is one of Simon Jenkins Englands Thousand Best Houses and was one of 16 shortlisted by Country Life for their finest manor house award. It is mostly Tudor, built around 1550 by a local lawyer who married an heiress, Miss de Cadehaye. A long gallery was added in Elizabeth Is reign.
