Lake District cottages & holiday cottages in NW England
Find out more about the area below and choose between Lake District cottages and holiday cottages in Cumbria, Lancashire, Cheshire and the Isle of Man. Cumbria and Lake District cottages
The lakes are complemented by pleasant towns and villages and some of the best-loved hills and mountains in the UK (including England's highest, Scafell Pike). There's superb walking here at any time of year. The landscape that inspired writers as varied as Wordsworth, Beatrix
Potter and Arthur Ransome is largely unchanged. This is the great attraction
of a cottage holiday in the Lake District... Search
Lake District cottages: Lake District cottages on the coastThere is lots of good holiday accommodation in the towns and villages of the Lake District, but some of the best cottages are on the edges of the Lake District National Park or outside it, for instance on the coast at Broughton-in-Furness. The low-lying areas around Morecambe Bay in the south and the Solway
Firth in the north have their own attractive towns, like Silloth-on-Solway
with its cobbled streets and great views across the sea to Scotland.
There are some good beaches too, for instance at Allonby near Maryport...
Holiday cottages in LancashireThere is more great countryside in the rest of the region. In Lancashire the Ribble Valley area offers great walking in the moorland of the Forest of Bowland. The town of Clitheroe is the centre of the area and makes a good place for a cottage holiday, handy for both rural attractions like Pendle Hill and the glitzier charms of Blackpool. A more scenic alternative is the village of Chipping, in the Forest of Bowland itself. Manchester and the towns around it are these days famously vibrant
cultural and entertainment centres, well worth a day trip if you're
staying in the area. As is Liverpool, whether it is the Beatles or the
great Victorian heritage that attracts you... Holiday cottages in CheshireChester is the main tourist attraction in Cheshire. Built by the Romans
on a loop of the River Dee, it could be reached from the sea and was
for centuries a thriving port. Most of the original town wall still
survives and makes a great walk. The surrounding countryside is pleasant
(and famously well-heeled); local attractions include Tatton Park near
Knutsford... Holiday cottages on the Isle of ManFinally, half way to Ireland lies the Isle of Man. As well as great
scenery and beaches, it's wonderfully untouched by time, like a 1950s
throwback. Hardly anyone used to go there apart from holidaymakers from
the nearby North-west and motorbike fans for the TT. But the no-frills
airline revolution has made it easily and cheaply accessible from all
over the UK. With lots of lovely cottage accommodation available, it
has to be our number one 'tip for the top' go there before the
crowds do! ... Search for cottages in the Isle of Man: Search for
