North West of England cottages 4 holiday cottages in The Isle Of Man
As well as great scenery and beaches, the Isle of Man feels wonderfully untouched by time, like a 1950s throwback. Hardly anyone used to go there apart from holidaymakers from the nearby North-west and motorbike fans for the TT, but the no-frills airline revolution has made it easily and cheaply accessible from all over the UK. With lots of lovely cottage accommodation available, it has to be our number one 'tip for the top' go there before the crowds do!
The island has a surprisingly rich history. The Celtic iron age left forts and roundhouses, then the Vikings took over. There are some beautiful walks around the island, and you'll find evidence of a lot of this history including several spectacular stone crosses.
If this has caught your interest, try some of the museums. Grove House is a victorian home, frozen in time for you to look around. Then there's the railway museum, giving a potted history of travel by steam. Finally, the Manx museum is well worth a visit you'll find out much about the history of the island.
Finally, if you're a fan of the TT, head to the motorcycle museum for all thing motorbike-related.
