Weather for the Republic of Ireland

For weather information in the Republic try Met Éireann, the website for the Irish National Meteorological Service which provides national and regional forecasts (Ulster, Munster, Leinster, Connacht and Dublin) plus climate information to help you plan the best time for a cottage break in Ireland.

Irish Republic travel information

The major airports within the Republic are Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Kerry Flights via Belfast International Airport and Belfast City Airport, in Northern Ireland, are also useful for getting to the Northern and central counties of the Republic.

Ferry services from the UK are operated by Irish Ferries, Swansea Cork Ferries and Stena Line, and from Roscoff to Cork, Brittany Ferries.

Information about bus and coach travel within Ireland can be found on the following sites: Bus Éireann Ireland's national bus company and Bus Átha Cliaths – Dublin Bus which provides a service for the city and county of Dublin, including sightseeing tours.

Rail service information can be found on Iarnród Éireanne which operates passenger train services countrywide.

Car rentals can be obtained from many of the UK and International Hire companies, but if you'd prefer to support Irish companies try Irish Car Rentals or Dooley Car Rentals. Both sites also have some useful driving information if you are not used to driving in the Republic.

If you are flying into Ireland, both Atlas Car Rentals, and Dublin Car Hire (Belgard Selfdrive) are very conveniently located at the arrivals hall of Dublin airport. In the West of Ireland, Casey Car Hire operates from Knock airport.

Ireland excursions and activities

Ireland, and Dublin in particular, is known for its beer, so a visit to the Guinness Storehouse is recommended; learn about the 250 years of brewing history, skill and passion which is behind this world famous beer.

Ireland offers the holidaymaker some very good fishing and many of the holiday cottages we list provide easy access to river or sea fishing, for more information try the Central Fisheries Board website, which is an excellent resource for all types of fishing in Ireland.
