East of England 1 holiday cottages in CambridgeshireThe university town of Cambridge is a tourist destination in its own right. A trip here is a must if you're renting a holiday cottage in the region. The colleges, river, and throngs of students create an atmosphere you won't find anywhere else (Oxford, for example, is bigger, busier and far less dominated by its university). The city centre is compact it's easy to see everything on foot, and on weekdays you'll find a bustling market. The streets are packed with coffee shops and restaurants, and all this without the distraction of cars the centre is a pedestrian zone. You can look around the Cambridge Colleges when students aren't studying for exams, and it's worth walking through the parts that border the river 'the Backs' as they're known. It's well worth taking time to enjoy the river itself too. Either take a chauffeured punt tour, or hire your own. And if you're feeling adventurous, take the trip upstream to Granchester. But if you're tempted to potter around the Backs by punt, then beware things get frantic in the summer months! A cottage or apartment in the city is not the only option for a Cambridgeshire cottage holiday. For example north of Cambridge, Ely is well worth a look. A quiet, pretty place, most famous for its cathedral. Again, Ely can be busy in summer, but retains a peaceful atmosphere and is pleasant to wander through on foot. Ely and Cambridge are well-connected with London by an excellent train service, so if you're in a holiday cottage in Cambridgeshire, seeing the capital makes a good and easy day out. Cambridge and Cambridgeshire holiday cottagesMost of the holiday cottages we list in Cambridgeshire are in smaller villages and towns rather than the city of Cambridge itself locations such as Denton near the lovely old town of Stamford (ideal for visits to Burleigh Horse Trials, Rutland Water and Cambridge), or Wisbech (sometimes described as the capital of the fens). Of particular interest are some distinctive holiday cottages in converted beamed barns in Wisbech St. Mary these cottages are NAS graded for people with mobility impairment. Or rather than holiday cottages how about holiday carriages? Take your Cambridgeshire holiday in some sympathetically renovated railway carriages. Or even take your horse on holiday with you to a pretty cottage on a working farm near Kimbolton. These and some more standard holiday cottages are available and can be booked direct with the owners, use the links below to see what's on offer. Search for cottage
