West Country cottages 4 – Holiday cottages in Dorset
Dorset is like East Devon but more so: quiet resorts, pretty villages
with impossibly cute names (can anyone beat Toller Porcorum or Bingham's
Melcombe? – well, Somerset hits back with Haselbury Plucknett!)
and sleepy farmland.
Hardy's Wessex is more than just a marketing slogan – many key
locations in his books, like Lulworth Cove, are hardly changed. The
Jurassic Coast, named after its soft, fossil-filled rocks, is a favourite
with children and adults alike – if you look hard you might find
your very own fossil. And if a traditional seaside resort is more to
your taste, Bournemouth has plenty to offer.
Dorset cottage types
There are many traditional 'English country cottage' type properties
in our Dorset cottages section – for example a thatched Grade II
