West Country cottages 5 holiday cottages in Somerset
Somerset is sometimes overlooked as a place you drive through, but
it is one of England's most attractive and varied counties. If you like
hills, choose between the Mendips in north Somerset (Cheddar Gorge,
Wookey Hole and great walking), or the Brendons, Quantocks and Exmoor
to the west. And if you prefer your walking easier, try the Somerset
Levels. Though as flat as the fens, there is always a hill on the horizon
to add a backdrop to the charms of willow, peat, grazing cows and abundant
flora and fauna.
South Somerset has pretty, idyllic villages and the Parrett Trail.
Then there are coastal resorts like Minehead or Weston-super-Mare, the
mystical thrills of Glastonbury and the Isle of Avalon.
Finally, don't forget the towns and cities of Somerset. There is the
cathedral city of Wells, Taunton the county town and further
north the historic and beautiful city of Bath and busy metropolitan
Bristol. Somerset has a lot to offer as a cottage holiday destination
and it's ideal if you want to avoid a longer journey further down the
south west peninsula but still seek the charm of the West Country.
Somerset cottage types
We list cottages and holiday rentals right across Somerset with some
lovely properties in and around the Bath area in the north, right down
to cottages on the edge of the county border with Devon. These include
several larger properties and cottage complexes suitable for families
or groups of 10 plus.
Particularly interesting Somerset cottages we currently list include
Swiss style timber lodges and stone cottages on the edge of the Exmoor
National Park, several top quality self-catering cottages on a large
country estate south of Bath and some very attractive contemporary style
cottages on a farm close to Bath.
